Mr. Gonzales is a shareholder in the Firm's Santa Fe Office and specializes in Public Policy and Litigation. Mr. Gonzales advises clients on diverse range of public policy matters involving legislative strategy, appropriations and agency process at both the state and federal levels. Mr. Gonzales' Public Policy practice involves many substantive areas, including telecommunications, taxes, energy rights of way, potash, education, and real estate.
Before joining the firm in 1998, Mr. Gonzales worked in the United States Senate as a Legislative Assistant to Senator Pete V. Domenici for 10 years. During his tenure in the Senate, Mr. Gonzales covered issues related to the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, State and the Judiciary and the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee for the Senator.
Mr. Gonzales was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and he and his family are deeply rooted in its traditions and history.
State Personnel Board, Member (June 1999 - 2001)
In June of 1999, Governor Gary Johnson appointed Mr. Gonzales to a five-year term on the State Personnel Board. The State Personnel Board hears all final administrative appeals of state employees and sets all policies, rules and regulations that govern state employment. As a Board Member, Mr. Gonzales heard and helped to decide several hundred cases involving employee rights, combating government waste, fraud and abuse. During his term on the State Personnel Board Mr. Gonzales also fought for employment rights for New Mexicans with disabilities and mental illness.
