Practice

Mrs. Ramo concentrates her practice in the areas of mediation, arbitration, business law, real estate, probate and estate planning. She has particular experience in working with large corporations on strategic and long-range planning.

Professional Activities

Mrs. Ramo was elected President of the American Bar Association in 1995-96, the first woman in history to head the world's largest organization of attorneys.  Mrs. Ramo became the President of The American Law Institute in May 2008, also the first woman president of the ALI.  Mrs. Ramo is currently a member of a new American Bar Association Commission now looking at the Rules of Professional Responsibility and making recommendations on changes especially related to electronic and computer issues for the American Bar Association.  In February, 2003, the United States Senate appointed her to co-chair the committee to review and make suggestions for change of the United States Olympic Committee.  She is Chair of the ABA's Rule of Law Initiative, on Panels for the American Arbitration Association, the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution's National Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Santa Fe Opera and of Think New Mexico, a non-partisan think tank.  In 2000, she was made an honorary member of the Bar of England and Wales, and of Gray's Inn.  She is a Fellow of both the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and of the American Bar Foundation.  She served as a Regent of the University of New Mexico from 1989-1995 and as President of the Board of Regents from 1991-1993.
