Upon graduation, she was invited to become a member of the Louisiana State Law Institute, which is a quasi-public agency which makes recommendations to the Louisiana Legislature concerning revisions to Louisiana's statutes. She practiced for two years with Stone, Pigman, Walther, Wittman & Hutchinson in New Orleans, and in 1978, moved to New Mexico and joined the Modrall Sperling firm. She took a sabbatical from the firm from 1998 to 2004 and now works in the firm's Santa Fe office.
Her primary areas of practice are natural resources, real property, and appeals, with emphasis on oil and gas and antitrust law. Ms. Stockstill prepares acquisition, drilling, and division order title opinions for natural resources clients in the San Juan and Permian basins. She has extensive real estate experience, having represented Santa Fe Pacific Gold Corporation and The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company in what was then the largest tax-free exchange ever completed under §1031 of the Internal Revenue Code.
