Modrall Sperling attorneys are committed to exploring opportunities to evaluate and resolve disputes by means other than traditional litigation. Effectively managing, resolving, or representing a client in alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) can require different skill sets and attitudes from traditional litigation.
Our ADR attorneys have served as arbitrators and mediators in major damage and commercial matters. Modrall Sperling ADR lawyers serve on panels for the American Arbitration Association and on other types of mediation and arbitration panels. Modrall Sperling lawyers also serve as counsel to parties in mediation and arbitration, provide neutral evaluation of disputes, and serve as settlement counsel. Commercial clients retain our ADR lawyers for strategic planning advice about alternative approaches to resolving legal matters.
Modrall Sperling lawyers have taught courses in dispute resolution techniques, lectured in this area, and serve on the boards of American Arbitration Association and international dispute resolution organizations. Roberta Cooper Ramo, Chair of our ADR Group, is co-chair of the Uniform Law Committee that drafted the Uniform Mediation Act being adopted across the country, and the firm is a member of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution. Members of Modrall Sperling’s Alternative Dispute Resolution and Evaluation Group also train client representatives in dispute resolution techniques.
