Community Involvement

We at Modrall Sperling are grateful for our community of clients, friends and colleagues who help make us a success. We demonstrate our appreciation by giving our time, energy, talent and financial resources to worthwhile community organizations. Our goal is to make significant impacts on the organizations and causes we support.

Our Commitment to Public Service

Modrall Sperling is proud of its long-standing commitment to public service. Our past or present members include two governors, a state senator, four state supreme court justices, a federal district court judge, two state district court judges, two United States attorneys, the first woman President of the American Bar Association, Presidents of the Board of Regents for the University of New Mexico, and three presidents of the State Bar of New Mexico.

Many of the firm's lawyers have served and continue to serve as active members and officers on various boards, commissions and committees of the State Bar of New Mexico, the American Bar Association, and numerous community service and cultural organizations. For instance, Modrall Sperling lawyers sit on, among others, the State Board of Finance, and the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC) of the Supreme Court of New Mexico. In addition, two of our lawyers are actively involved with The American Law Institute (ALI), a collaboration of judges, practicing lawyers, and legal scholars, selected on the basis of professional achievement, who publish various Restatements of the Law, model codes, and legal studies to promote the clarification and simplification of the law in the interest of constantly improving the administration of justice. Roberta Cooper Ramo is the incoming President of ALI. Arthur D. Melendres a member and an advisor to the Employment Law Restatement group of ALI.

Our Community

The lawyers that make up our firm serve local, regional and national clients, as well as individuals, with unmatched responsiveness and real care. That care is mirrored by our active involvement in the communities in which we live and work.

In addition to supporting the following organizations, we have established a scholarship fund at the University of New Mexico Law School in memory of James E. Sperling and contributed substantially to the University of New Mexico Law School’s recent expansion and the New Mexico State Bar's new bar center.

Modrall Sperling proudly supports the following non-profit organizations with time, money and/or membership. We also serve on the Boards of Directors for many of these organizations:
