Earl Biss lists himself as Crow-Chippewa and was born in Washington state. Unable, due to illness, to participate in sports in high school, he turned to painting, his passion since age three. In his experimental lithograph, "Mirror Pass," instead of placed separately and apart, the figures are mirror images of each other inside a larger composition. The effect is Rorschach-like, in that the traditional distinction between fore and background has been subdued and reduced in relevance.
