Listed in the 2009 edition of the book The Best Lawyers in America® under Banking and Real Estate, and recently named one of 25 attorneys in "Best of the Bar," a joint effort by the State Bar of New Mexico and the New Mexico Business Weekly, Ruth M. Schifani, a shareholder and member of the Executive Committee at Modrall Sperling, New Mexico's largest law firm with offices in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, was elected president of the University of New Mexico (UNM) Alumni Association in June, 2009.
As president, Ms. Schifani will be responsible for leading the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, the governing body of the Association and the University's oldest support group, which exists to keep alumni, and friends of UNM involved with the school. The Association currently has approximately 143,000 members.
Ms. Schifani, a native of Albuquerque, NM, graduated from UNM, cum laude, in 1970 with a degree in English Literature. She received her law degree, cum laude, from UNM School of Law in 1976.
In April of this year, New Mexico Business Weekly named Ms. Schifani one of New Mexico's Women of Influence. She has served as past secretary/treasurer of the Board of Equal Access to Justice, past president of the Albuquerque Bar Association, member of the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission, regent of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, and past president of the YWCA of the Middle Rio Grande.
Ms. Schifani also is listed in the publications Chambers USA 2009: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, the Client's Guide and Southwest Super Lawyers 2009.
