Walter E. Stern, a shareholder at Modrall Sperling, New Mexico's largest law firm with offices in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, has been named president of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF), effective immediately.
Chair of Modrall Sperling's Public Lands Service Group and co-chair of its Indian Law Service Group, Stern is listed in five categories in the preeminent book, "The Best Lawyers in America," including Natural Resources Law, Energy Law, Mining Law, Native American Law, and Oil and Gas Law. Mr. Stern was named president of RMMLF during its Annual Institute and Trustees Meeting held in San Francisco in July.
A noted practitioner for 25 years, Stern concentrates his practice in assisting and counseling businesses and individuals in their business, administrative and dispute resolution dealings with Indian tribes and public land management agencies, such as the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service and State Land office, with a special emphasis on natural resources, energy and environmental law. He holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is also listed in the publications Chambers USA 2009: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, the Client's Guide and Southwest Super Lawyer®.
Comprised of approximately 2,500 members, the RMMLF is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to providing scholarly research of the laws and issues affecting domestic and international mineral and water resources. Its goals are to foster and encourage a scholarly but practical study of the law and applicable regulations relating to oil and gas, mining, water, public land management, land use, conservation, environmental protection, and other related areas.
