Kateri Garcia West focuses her practice in general litigation and public finance. Prior to joining Modrall Sperling, Kateri gained experience at a prominent civil defense firm practicing in the areas of health law litigation and public finance.

While attending the University of New Mexico School of Law, Kateri gained a variety of valuable experiences. She practiced social justice advocacy as a W.K. Kellogg Child and Family Justice Advocate and developed oral and written advocacy skills through the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition Moot Court team. She also served as a teaching assistant, and a research assistant. Upon graduation, Kateri received the Ann C. Scales Jurisprudence Award for her “demonstrated commitment to moving the law forward in the service of humanity” through innovative legal work with the Moms of Law student group, which she co-founded.

Prior to law school, Kateri started her career as a mechanical engineer and spent a decade in medical sales for several Fortune 500 companies in local and national roles. Her volunteer work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in the foster care system led her to law school.

Kateri has been recognized as a Southwest Rising Star by Southwest Super Lawyers®. She is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and co-coaches the HNBA’s moot court team at the University of New Mexico School of Law. She is an Edge Core member, ministering to middle school youth at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

When she is not at work, Kateri enjoys skiing, hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful mountains of New Mexico with her daughter and husband.
