Melissa Kountz’s practice centers around civil defense litigation. With over eight years experience, Melissa is well versed in employment law, including defending against discrimination claims, retaliation claims, wrongful termination claims, and more. She has extensive experience with labor issues, including representation proceedings, negotiations, and defending prohibited practice complaints. Melissa’s practice has encompassed every stage of litigation, from initial claims through appellate work. She also has extensive experience in resolving disputes in administrative proceedings and arbitration.
As a New Mexico native, Melissa earned her undergraduate degree in Statistics from the University of New Mexico before going on to obtain her J.D. from the UNM School of Law. Though she misses math dearly, she has found that practicing law offers her plenty of opportunity to exercise her creative problem solving skills.
While pursuing her J.D., Melissa worked as a Law Clerk for the City Attorney’s Office in Albuquerque. After graduation, she was hired as an attorney to the Employment and Labor Law Division of that office. Before joining Modrall Sperling, she served as the Managing City Attorney for the Employment and Labor Division for four years.
When she is not practicing law, Melissa can be found reading mystery novels, hiking with her family, or inventing new curse words while completing that day’s Sudoku or NYT Crossword puzzle.
