Law Day Celebration

Modrall Sperling was well-represented at this year’s celebration of Law Day with attendance by Susan Miller Bisong, Martha Brown, Stuart Butzier, Emil Kiehne, Chris Killion, Marjorie Rogers, Daniel Schueler and Lynn Slade.

On behalf of the firm, Lynn delivered remarks regarding the James E. Sperling State Bar Student Essay contest and its importance to both the firm and to the Albuquerque and State legal communities (photo above). As firm Vice President Stuart Butzier said afterward, “His speech was part poignant tribute to Jim Sperling and part sincere congratulations to the student essayists who submitted entries into the high school legal writing competition.”

This year’s topic, “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society,” invited students to research case law and discuss current issues such as:

  • Are bloggers members of the press?
  • Do all individuals have a right to privacy?
  • Can free society exist without free speech and free press?

Modrall Sperling has sponsored the essay contest since the competition’s inception in 1997.
