Karen Kahn Elected Fellow of the American Bar Foundation

Modrall Sperling is pleased to announce that Karen Kahn, shareholder, has been elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF). Membership is limited to just one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by their peers and selected by the ABF Board. Karen joins Modrall Sperling shareholders Spencer Edelman, Tomas Garcia, Michelle Hernandez and Roberta Cooper Ramo as member of this prestigious organization.

The ABF Fellows is a global honorary society that recognizes attorneys, judges, law faculty and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. ABF Fellows hail from nearly 40 countries and hold a wide variety of influential roles.

Karen Kahn concentrates her practice in ERISA and employee benefits law. For more than 35 years she has advised clients regarding defined contribution plans including 401(k) and 403(b) plans, ESOPs, traditional defined benefit pension plans, cash balance plans, Section 125-cafeteria plans, HSAs and HRAs, welfare plans including health insurance plans, wrapper plans, severance plans, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. Karen provides legal counsel to more than 200 employee benefit plans.

Chambers USA has recognized Karen in the area of Employee Benefits and Compensation.  Best Lawyers in America® named Karen 2017 and 2021 Employee Benefits “Lawyer of the Year” in Albuquerque.  She is Chair of the firm’s Benefits/ Investments Committee.

Before joining Modrall Sperling, Karen worked as in-house counsel for an international life insurance company, as director of benefits and counsel for a large healthcare organization, and in private practice in California and Albuquerque. She clerked on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for the Honorable Judge Harry Pregerson.
