Shareholder Deana Bennett will present on the topic of environmental enforcement on Indian lands as part of the 2017 New Mexico State Bar Annual Meeting—Bench and Bar Conference. Her session will include an overview of federal environmental statutes that apply to projects on Indian lands, including the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act, as well as statutes that delegate to tribes the ability to regulate certain standards in the same manner as a state, such as the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. This session will also discuss examples of tribal environmental law and regulation and provide a discussion of cases involving environmental challenges and environmental enforcement on Indian lands.
