Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Modrall Sperling is deeply committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within our firm and the broader community. The firm actively recruits, retains, and promotes diverse attorneys and staff, with over half of its attorneys being women and approximately one-quarter from diverse backgrounds.
The firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts extend beyond internal practices. Modrall Sperling attorneys participate in organizations such as the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Navajo Nation Bar Association, the New Mexico Women’s Bar Association, and the New Mexico Supreme Court Commission on Equity and Justice. The firm also hosts events celebrating cultural observances like Black History Month, Juneteenth, and Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and the firm participates in Pride parades in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
The firm provides diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused training to attorneys and staff members, including opportunities to obtain the Equity in Justice CLE credit required of all New Mexico attorneys. Modrall Sperling attorneys support pro bono programs assisting women and diverse-owned small businesses and participate in clinics and pro bono representation aiding immigrant youth seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
To further its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, the firm established the Max J. Madrid Law Diversity Scholarship, offering $10,000 in tuition assistance to law students dedicated to DEI and intending to practice in New Mexico. The scholarship honors the late Max Madrid, a former partner and advocate for diversity.
Modrall Sperling is a law firm dedicated to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion – both within our own workplace and in our community at large. The firm’s efforts in this regard are broad and cover many aspects of diversity including age, disability, ethnicity, faith, gender, pro bono, sexual orientation and social mobility.
